patios

Not sure if you want an elaborate or simple patio? Is there a compromise?

Yes, there is! Many homeowners out there still want nicer things in life, but they also want to live a little simpler. There’s nothing wrong with that! Some would love to take full advantage of having an outdoor living space. Sometimes though, it can create a bit of hard decision-making in the future when it comes to modifications to your home. There’s plenty of room for compromise; it is your house, after all!

You may be looking for a big, lovely outdoor space for holding big, lovely get-togethers. Having enough space to host guests, along with room for mingling and tables for eating, is a priority for those who may have people over often. If you like the more elaborate styles, that’s totally fine. But, living it up in your personal relaxation space is your right as a homeowner!  If that’s what you’re looking for, then, by all means, those professionals can make your more luxurious dreams a reality! If not, there’s still room for accommodation.

Intricate outdoor living spaces can sometimes come with a higher price tag, which is definitely an intimidation factor for many people. They also require more time for building and set-up, and some clients want to enjoy their outdoor space sooner than that! Smaller patios can make for a great in-between that’s still great for hanging out on your lawn while fitting your uncomplicated style. You can read a book on comfy lawn chairs, host kid’s birthday parties, and soak up some rays just the same, with a nice solid surface for your outdoor furniture!

Are patios good for improving the value of your home?

Once again, the answer is yes! Patios not only make for a great addition to your family home, but they can also increase your home’s value by just over 12%! Generally, folks mistakenly think small percentage amounts like that don’t make enough of a difference; however, you can add up to over $6,500 in resale value on this type of installment alone!

When you’re looking for good resale value in a home, or you know you’ll eventually want to sell, there are ways to make that process a little easier on yourself. The more high-quality additions you add to your home, the more updating you do, the more you will draw in potential buyers. Having a good amount of interest in your home right off the bat can make selling your home a faster and easier experience for you. Curb appeal can help make or break the decision for some people!

What are some common materials used for making lovely patios?

It all depends on what you’re looking for and what you want your own patio to look like! Some folks like using concrete for the base of their patios because there are a lot more options than some other alternatives. It can mold to just about any desired shape and can be changed to fit your overall theme. Smooth-based flooring or even simply stamped creates an excellent blank canvas for just about anything you could decorate it with! If you would like something with a little more “pop,” you could elect to have it colored/tinted, painted, or decorated with inlays. This is good for specific outdoor theming and detailed accents you may want to add. Then, of course, there’s always the possibility of being patterned and surfaced with other materials such as colored pebbles.

If you’re going for a more classic look, brick is always a pretty, simple choice. It is a very versatile material that can go with just about anything you would pick for furniture. It is great for both rustic and formal design, making it easy for decorating purposes! You also can choose how the brick is laid, ranging in patterns from herringbone, running bond, and jack-on-jack. Another simple choice with a bit more options can include flagstone flooring. They can vary in color and are more easily identifiable due to their irregular shape and provide enough traction when wet due to the more rough surface. There are varying types of flagstone you could choose, including Sandstone, Limestone, Bluestone, and Quartzite.

If you like the simplicity of brick but want more range in natural colors and various cut shapes, pavers are the perfect option for your home! They can be made to look more like brick, cut stone, or cobblestone-and often be cut into designs that fit together like perfect puzzle pieces. For a more modern or contemporary design, you could easily go with tile flooring for your patio, which offers a smooth finish that comes with sealers and coating to protect it from the elements, stains, and wear. It’s important to note they can get slippery when wet, which is why many use them as an accent and edging for their outdoor space. Similarly, cut stone offers a wide array of choices in materials that look formal like tile but are similar in structure to flagstone. They can be laid in rows or with gaps, with loose materials filling the gaps. Granite, marble, slate-any of the above can make for some beautiful floor work!

This is a lot, can I do it myself?

In technicality, yes, you can. However, for projects like this, it’s not advised to take it on without the help of professionals who are skilled in this trade! You’ll need the right tools such as wet saws, compactors, wheelbarrows, and smaller items such as shovels, levels, safety goggles, and rubber mallets. You could potentially need many more materials, and not everyone is proficient with using them all. Installing a patio is an investment in itself. However, you do run the high risk of something going wrong trying to do it yourself. Should something like this happen, it will end up costing you more, in the long run, trying to fix said issues.

If you work with a local landscaping company, you will have creative input in the finished product without doing all the work yourself. Once you get a plan together and get the process rolling, you could be chilling out back on your brand-new beautiful patio in no time at all! Here at Copperhead Landscaping, we are happy to help the residents of Allen, Plano, and McKinney, TX, to upgrade their properties with a unique patio installation!
